Homonym is the alter ego of British, Vienna based singer songwriter Michael Dey.

Michael was born the last of five musical sons at the dawn of the nineties, where he was raised in an old vicarage in the industrial valleys of Northern England. After being chewed up by punk rock in his teens, spat out as a folk singer in London, and eventually relocating a thousand miles from home to ‘join a band’, it’s safe to say he’s had his fair share of fresh starts.

Homonyms are two or more words which are spelt or pronounced the same as one another, but each have different meanings (bear, bare… stare, stair… as a few examples). Homonym radiates this same duality in every song – perfectly blending the rawness of indie folk music with the subtle tinges of modern pop production. Songs that appear sweet on the surface build to the point of breaking. In Homonym’s case, the cracks are where the darkness gets in.
