DEAE (POL)
DEAE is a duo for flutes, percussion, keyboards and electronics. The starting point of this duo are medieval works by Hildegard of Bingen, transformed into partly composed, contemporary, improvised material, structured and filtered through the musicians own peculiar musical sensibility.
In 2023, the ensemble had a well-received concert premiere with the guest appearance of Estonian double bassist Mingo Rajandi at the 12th Katowice JazzArt Festival and at the JazzKaar festival in Tallinn; in January 2024, the duo performed at the Days of New Music festival in Gdańsk. This year, the duo performed twice with German virtuosos Axel Dörner and Erhard Hirt – in Berlin at the Avant Art Festival and at the Polish Witold Lutosławski Studio in the final concert of the Ad Libitum festival.
Zofia Ilnicka - flutist, composer, improviser. She graduated from the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz in 2016. For many years she has been closely associated with the performance of new and improvised music. She is an artist boldly exploring advanced performance techniques. Involved in many jazz, free-impro and contemporary music projects including Trio_io, Layers, Space Welders, Brzoska Kolektyw, Krakow Improvisers Orchestra. She collaborates with many composers, consulting their works. She draws inspiration from the music of Brian Ferneyhough, Dominik Karski and Steve Reich. She has collaborated with the Landjugendorchester NRW, the Pomeranian Philharmonic Orchestra in Bydgoszcz and the Symphony Orchestra of Toruń.
Ola Rzepka - drummer, pianist, composer and performer. A graduate of the Rhythmic Music Department of the Academy of Music in Katowice at the Faculty of Composition, Interpretation, Education and Jazz, and a scholarship holder of the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen in the piano and percussion class. Scholarship holder of the Minister of Culture and the Office of the Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship. She teaches piano improvisation at the K. Szymanowski Secondary Music School in Katowice, conducts her own lessons and music workshops. She has cooperated, among others, with Raphael Rogiński, Antoni Ziut Gralak. She has written music for theater performances in, among others, the Słowacki Theatre in Kraków, the Capitol in Wrocław, as well as in Germany and Switzerland. She has performed with her own repertoire at many festivals of avant-garde, improvised, contemporary, pop and jazz music in Poland, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Estonia, Macedonia and Turkey. Featured among the Jazz Top drummers of 2024 according to the Jazz Forum magazine critics' poll.
