Live: Julian Sartorius plays “Locked Grooves”, Support: Akrüül (Goldgelb Records) plus DJ Sets by Andrea Ida, Fabio Bianco & Blacklight Chameleon.

Julian Sartorius wants to test infinity. The drummer, artist and percussionist from Bern focuses on reduction and repetition and has recorded an album that has the ability to stop time. Sartorius explores the potential of a repertoire performed under strict conditions and regulated by a loop length of 1.8 seconds, with a disciplined focus on sonic nuances, micro-expressions and shifting time signatures.
This album’s 112 sealed grooves – or 112 one-minute loops on the digital version – reveal a wealth of rhythmic forms, some powerful, others fragile, others impulsive, alluring and driving. Sartorius’ precise, multi-layered rhythmic patterns are succinct excursions into the hidden sounds of found objects and prepared instruments, succinct arrangements that build a bridge between sound art and the vocabulary of (experimental) electronic music.
