Jena Jang (South Korea), Julia Just (Ö)
Jena Jang is a South Korean audiovisual artist based in Prague, working across Europe and Asia.
Their practice centers on trauma healing through frequency-based rituals that merge harsh noise, power electronics, drone, chanting, and raw vocal expression.
Performing with the self-built Tupperwave Synthesiser—crafted from recycled materials—Jang explores DIY instrument-making inspired by traditional healing music and ritual practices. This work underpins their ongoing PhD project, Contemporary Art of Healing (2019–), which theorizes how experimental sound can transform trauma.
They define their unique sonic approach as Necrocore: an alternative sound medicine that exorcises pain and awakens warrior spirit through cathartic performance. Drawing on Buddhist chants, yogic breath, throat singing, Pansori (판소리), Samulnori (사물놀이), and Korean shamanic ritual, they create ghostly resonances that haunt and heal. Each set becomes a ritual of embodied release—for artist and audience alike.
Notable appearances include a headline performance at London’s Café OTO (presented by Chinabot), and a collaborative residency at MeetFactory (CZ) with bela (DE/KR) and Mvd0ae (MX/CZ). Their Chinabot mix was broadcast on Radio Alhara and Radio Lora. Other highlights include a 2023 performance with Udasi and Mia Zabelka at Ars Electronica (Linz).
JULIA JUST
Julia Just creates a distinctive electronic sound world shaped by dark drones, pulses, creaks, and reverberations. The Vienna-based artist combines synths, field recordings, granular synthesis, and digital effect chains processed through a modular setup. The result is consistently unexpected and infused with a deep sense of darkness – abstract sonic journeys at the intersection of post-industrial, dark ambient, and electroacoustic music
