Marina Abramović:
Marina Abramović (born 1946 in Belgrade) is one of the most important contemporary artists. She is considered a pioneer of modern performance art and has made art history with her legendary appearances.
Starting in Belgrade in the early 1970s, she has established performance as a genre of visual art over the course of a career spanning more than 50 years.
Galerie Krinzinger already showcased her performance Thomas Lips in 1975, and in 1978 she performed at the international performance festival in Vienna. The exhibition, curated by Bettina Maria Busse, was developed in cooperation with the Kunstforum Wien and will offer an extensive overview of the artist’s work.
The focus of the presentation at the Albertina Modern will be daily reenactments of historic performances throughout the exhibition's duration. Performance art has a long tradition in Vienna, with Viennese Actionism as its most well-known form.
