PRESSETEXT:

Stephen Mallinder, co-founder and frontman of the iconic Cabaret Voltaire, has returned with his first solo album in over 35 years: Um Dada. Laced with leftfield house and cut-up sound collages, Um Dada is a melding of energies that are an exercise in simplicity and motion. Sincere, playful realism that beckons your body to move, always reminding you to never take yourself too seriously without forfeiting your agency.

While steering Cabaret Voltaire through the 1980´s, Mallinder was already busy piecing together his first solo album entitled “Pow Wow”, which would help define Mallinder´s interest in the more leftfield electro sounds shaping England at the time. It was this diverse and abstract hybrid that helped inspire generations of artists and musicians through steeping raw machine funk within the whimsical and absurdist ideology.

Since the release of “Pow Wow” in 1982, Mallinder continued his pioneering work with Cabaret Voltaire, as well as recording and touring with his electro projects Wrangler, Creep Show, Hey Rube, Kula, and Cobby & Mallinder.

His second solo album, “Um Dada”, was released in 2019. This is only the second time Mal will be presenting this material live!

Modell Doo was formed in May 1985 (originally as Modell D´oo). The band has been - and is - based in (and around) Vienna, Austria.
Modell Doo as a project was specialized from the start: It focused on the niche between electroacoustic avant-garde, synthetic pop, Dada and industrial music, composing with analog synthesizers, drum machines and primitive sampling techniques, but it also included edgy guitar riffs and acoustic (predominantly percussive) sound sources like metal rims, breaking glass or oil barrels in their songs.

Main musical influences, to name just a few: Sparks (for hysteria and wit), Kraftwerk (for logic and simplicity), The Residents (for minimalism and weirdness), Fad Gadget (for elegance and spirit), Bauhaus (for adrenaline and theatricality), Cabaret Voltaire (for antigravity and linearity), Japan (for grace and artistry), Einstürzende Neubauten (for rage and poetry), Birds With Ears (for importunity and nerdiness) and The Young Gods (for discipline and ecstasy).
