Wonk Unit are a band from Croydon, London, known for their unique take on punk rock, their superproactive DIY ethos and cult like T shirt range.

A band that is unique in Europe with its own sound, its own humor, its own festival and a deeply rooted DIY Background. Alex Brindle Johnson as the lead singer but also poet, skater, stage performer and creative motor is the heart of the band. Several claim that WONK UNIT is currently the most exciting thing happening on Europe’s punk rock stages.
The Wonk started life is 1992 when mastermind Alex formed a band called The Flying Medallions. Punk was very much dead in the UK at the time. Sadly we lost our bass player Dougie Palompo. And Wonk Unit formed in around 2005. Somehow Alex ended up in a rehearsal room with 2 insanely talented musicians, drummer Mez Clough and guitarist Gavin Kinch. Their playing lifted Alex songwriting. Suddenly everything sounded uber fresh.
Additionally, music and songs that have no sense of genre borders but at the same time portray exactly what Alex Brindle Johnson and therefore Work Unit are. For years Punk has needed new input and Wonk Unit deliver exactly that.
Wonk Unit has always been about “Alex”. His songs are his diary. He makes music for himyself, exactly as he skateboards for himself and draws pictures for himself. He never wanted to force Wonk on anyone as it was such a personal thing to him. Alex original ethos which still stands to this day is that he would never ask for a gig or review or record deal or endorsement. Wonk only go where we are wanted and appreciated.
Emerging from two years stuck at home with 7th studio album Uncle Daddy, the Wonk machine is showing no sign of slowing down.
